"ArrozCaldoForTheHeart"Arroz caldo is a hearty Filipino congee/"lugaw" and topped with crunchy fried garlic. The result is a quick, comforting bowl that's a perfect rainy time meal (and rivals chicken soup for its ability to sooth those suffering from a cold). Like this famous blend of culture dish, this blog aims to share Christian Living inputs such as insights or opinions, original stories and the like from the compilations of the projects of his students for the past decade. May these readings sooth the sunken soul, tired heart and stressed body.

"Megan"

By: John Clarence D. Cambas 9E C.N.8

There are different kinds of love. There is romantic, platonic, paternal and a many more. Romantic is when there is a desire of a person to be in a relationship with another romantically. Platonic love is love that doesn't involve attraction to someone's physical traits. Maternal and Paternal love is love from parent to child

I remember it like it was only yesterday... How i first met her... I remember how weird and awkward she was. My friend Marga introduced me to her. She was taller than me back then... Like two inches taller. The thing was, I started liking her. She would hug me everytime we meet and she would even eat my ice cream when i bought one. I thought that she would never like me but at the end we still ended up together.

It was Fair 2014, she was in a on and off relationship. I was always there to support her, helping her in making decisions and making the right ones. I would always compliment her and talk to her until she told me that she also liked me. She was torn between me and Carlo.  She hid herself as her friend that needed "love advice" and I did give her advice but I guessed that it was actually her asking and later on she finally told me the truth.

We made our relationship secret. We would say that we were just "bestfriends" but people would disagree with us. During 4th year I told her that I would be going to a different college, I was going to UP to study medicine while she chose fine arts in Taft. I saw the depression in her eyes so we made everyday together count. After graduating, we would still make time for each other and we would grab every oppurtunity to meet each other. She would always watch my taekwondo games. She was there to hold my hand and comfort me when I lost. And everytime I won, she would jump into my arms and hug me even though im all sweaty but during her last year in college she received a call that she got a scholarship in a school abroad. I was about to cry then because it felt like the years of waiting was worthless but I kept in mind that good things come to those who wait and I just need to wait a little longer.

During those three years that she was abroad temptations came but I was able to turn them down because I know there is someone else that is waiting for me. God was testing our faithfulness. I have always loved her and I always will. Every night I would wait for her calls and messages and reply to her as quick as I can. Then one day she told me that she was coming back. I knew that it was time to prepare... for my proposal. I talked to her family about it and they approved. I was really busy in preparing that I didn't have time to reply to her messages and calls. My plan was to propose to her in a beach where her family and her was supposed to go to an outing.

The day came and I saw her and her family swimming in the beach. She was beautiful as ever. I missed her so much but it has to wait. That night while they were eating outside, with the help of her relatives, I surprised her. I kneeled down, showed her the ring and asked, "Megan, love. Will you make me the happiest man on earth?" She cried and asked me to stand up. She punched me on the shoulder ( an old habit ) then hugged me. I was waiting for an answer, "YES!!!", she shouted.

After so much paperwork we finally could get married. I remember when i saw her walking the aisle i felt like crying, I was so happy. You were crying when I said my vows. When you said your vow, "I don't know what to say but you do know that i dont do cliche things but yeah.. I know we aren't suited for each other because of various reasons but i feel honored that  you are taking the risk of marrying me:P anyway i promise i will stand by you , cry with you and love you till the day i get eaten by walkers:P", I really cant hold it in and let the tears flow. Finally the priest said, "By the power invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife... You may now kiss the bride.." As if time slowed down as we turned to face each other you looked at me in the eye and said, "I love you." we slowly leaned in and our lips touched.

After many years of waiting, by the help of God we were finally together. We had two lovely children a boy and a girl. We were able to remain faithful to each other and loved each other the rest of our lives.

Through this project I was able too see and understand "love" better. I was able to reflect about what I am right now and what I want to be. I learned about the different things to change so that I will be able to adjust and help me reach my goals in life.

  1. The plot is really sweet and the characters are portrayed accurately. The story has a smooth flow that makes it easy to understand. Even through there are a few grammatical errors, it's a nice story to read. The story is really good. Good work, Clarence :)

This story had a smooth flow in the plot. The main character is a good example to guys everywhere. He shows that men can be strong despite the weaknesses we have. It was also smart of him to put the reality of temptation instead of sugarcoating the story. It teaches us of what is really out there. Other good examples in the story include the approval from parents. The introduction of the different types of love was also smart. All in all, the story was well-written.

I enjoyed how you placed the feelings you may feel, the ones you may encounter during that time. The idea of hoe you started it like a secret, the pains you encountered the flowing of the love. The idea of the effort and habits you had stayed constant in the story. It felt true to the heart and I hope the best of luck in love.

As Tomas said above, it was nice how you showed effort in the story and showed good traits like, avoidng temptation and such. I commend you on the progression of the story and the story itself!

  6. It was a good story but I think you should've made the story longer by emphasizing your family life with her... (Y)

  7. The story contains a lot of feels when it comes to the main character.
Plot is as smooth as a baby seal but I think the long focus on the family life is kinda of not needed.
But that can be forgiven since it shows the different kinds of love.
