"ArrozCaldoForTheHeart"Arroz caldo is a hearty Filipino congee/"lugaw" and topped with crunchy fried garlic. The result is a quick, comforting bowl that's a perfect rainy time meal (and rivals chicken soup for its ability to sooth those suffering from a cold). Like this famous blend of culture dish, this blog aims to share Christian Living inputs such as insights or opinions, original stories and the like from the compilations of the projects of his students for the past decade. May these readings sooth the sunken soul, tired heart and stressed body.

Best friend or Lover?

By: Micah Angela P. Dizon   SR-C

I believe that one should choose a lover over a best friend. They may be of the same importance in a person’s life, helping them grow, succeed and learn. However, it is with a lover that one makes a deeper connection. In that lover you can also find your best friend and your life-long partner. They are almost the same excluding the fact that a lover is more versatile, he/she can be many things to you, and you chose him/her because you are willing to make a commitment. The same intense commitment you make in this relationship cannot be found in the platonic relationship. I can base my opinion on my parents’ and grandparent’s experience. Right now, they don’t have best friends, but they still have each other. The thing they share is different and I believe that this kind of love can be found only once in a person’s life. The feelings you have for a best friend can be felt toward a lover. However, the feelings you have toward a lover cannot all be directed toward your best friend. For example, you can’t fall in love with a best friend. The rebuttal that your best friend can be your lover does not exactly counter my point of view because you have replaced your lover with a best friend that would eventually turn into your lover. So it’s like choosing your lover. Another point of mine is that the bond between lovers can be strengthened through marriage which is unbreakable. The same cannot be said for friendship.
